May 2011 Firm fined for failing control wood dust risk. A Southampton-based decking company has been sentenced after failure to control the risks of exposure to wood dust and adhesives at its Totton plant.
April 2011. Ban on Sunbed Use for Under 18s Local authorities could fine businesses up to £20,000 if they allow under 18 years olds to use sunbeds. The new ruling came into force on 8 April and bans all under 18 year olds in England and Wales from using sunbeds in places such as hotels, beauty salons and gyms. In some parts of the country, 50% of 15 to 17 year olds girls are reported to use sunbeds. Data shows that using sunbeds under the age of 35 increases the risk of developing malignant melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer by 75%. Every day, two people under the age of 35 are diagnosed with malignant melanoma.
